Ingredients For 2 Person

Original recipe

  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 3 cups shortening
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 4 eggs
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 8 teaspoons baking soda
  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons white sugar, or as needed

Directions: Best Christmas Cookie Recipe

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix 2 cups of sugar, shortening, and molasses together with an electric mixer until well combined. Don’t mix too much. Then add the eggs and mix for 30 seconds.

  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and salt. Add this mixture to the sugar mixture and mix until just combined; the dough should be stiff.

  4. Put 2 tablespoons of sugar in a shallow bowl. Shape the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll them in the sugar. Don’t flatten the balls. Place them on ungreased cookie sheets.

  5. Bake in the oven until the tops crackle (this makes a ‘lace’ design), which takes about 6 to 8 minutes. Let them cool for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.
