Some US States Struggling with Dunkin Donuts Shortages Due to Supply Issues

Dunkin Donuts Shortages in Some US Locations

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Dunkin’ made waves when it dropped “Donuts” from its name, but now, a doughnut shortage is causing a stir in states like Nebraska, New Mexico, and more.

Dunkin’ locations in Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island, Nebraska, were without doughnuts on Thursday and Friday, leaving customers disappointed. Signs posted on doors and drive-thru kiosks informed visitors that the beloved pastries were unavailable “due to a manufacturing error.” While some stores offered “Munchkins” (doughnut holes) on Friday, the iconic doughnuts were nowhere to be found.

Tyler Raikar, an Omaha resident, stopped by a Dunkin’ in west Omaha early Friday morning, craving a chocolate cake doughnut after a long shift as a phlebotomist. When told there were no doughnuts available, she reacted with disbelief. “What? No doughnuts! That’s tragic!” she exclaimed, though she was still able to grab her coffee.

While some locations were hit hard, stores in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and its suburbs were also reporting similar shortages. Many employees attributed the issue to supply chain problems, while others noted that delivery trucks were showing up without the doughnuts customers expected. Workers hope supplies will be back to normal by next week.

Dunkin Donuts Shortage in Some US Locations

A manager at the Dunkin’ in West Omaha confirmed on Friday that the Dunkin Donuts Shortages was a national issue, but was unable to provide specific details due to corporate restrictions. This shortage, affecting locations in Nebraska and a few other states, has left many customers disappointed, but it seems the problem isn’t nationwide.

In other regions, including St. Joseph, Missouri, and Boston—where Dunkin’ has a massive fanbase—there were no reports of Dunkin Donuts Shortages. Despite this hiccup, Dunkin’ remains one of the world’s largest coffee and doughnut chains, with over 13,200 locations.

Dunkin’ was bought by Inspire Brands in 2020 for $11.3 billion. The company also owns popular chains like Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings. A spokesperson for Inspire Brands, Jack D’Amato, explained that the shortage stemmed from a single supplier issue that impacted stores in Nebraska and some other regions. Around 4% of Dunkin’s 9,500 U.S. stores were affected, and the company has already begun restocking impacted locations.

Previously known as Dunkin’ Donuts, the company dropped “Donuts” from its name in 2018 as part of a rebranding strategy to focus more on coffee and beverages, which make up the majority of their sales.

Local franchise owner Bryce Bares, who operates several Dunkin’ locations in Nebraska, mentioned to the Omaha World-Herald that some stores received subpar products from suppliers. However, he assured customers that the issue has been corrected and doughnuts will be available again soon at his Nebraska locations.

Dunkin’ fans hope the sweet treats will soon return to shelves, but for now, the Dunkin Donuts Shortages are a temporary inconvenience.
