A new two-column sharing design will replace the classic four-finger chocolate bar in KitKat, marking the company’s largest change in almost 90 years.
The iconic British chocolate company is making a big change from its 1935 classic shape by introducing a 99g sharing bar style with several break-off pieces.

The momentous shift occurs nearly nine decades after the four-finger bar was first introduced by Rowntree’s of York. It was allegedly inspired by a worker who suggested creating a chocolate bar that could be carried in a man’s work bag.
According to KitKat manufacturer Nestlé, the new design’s goalis to make it “easier to create moments of connection” between individuals who share the chocolate bar.
Three flavors of the new sharing bars will be offered: hazelnut, salted caramel, and double chocolate.
Nestlé’s representative emphasized the new format’s distinctive eating experience, stating: “These innovative bars provide a unique, and multi-sensory eating experience thanks to their delicious light and creamy fillings and chocolate that melts effortlessly in the mouth.”
The juxtaposition of textures, they continued, produces “an exceptional experience,” which is further accentuated by “the stunning swirled effect created by the marbled coating.”
Since its inception by Rowntree’s of York, the brand has stuck to its distinctive four-finger format; the makeover marks a substantial change.
Chocolate aficionados have already expressed their excitement about the collection on social media thanks to the new style.

Nestlé announced the withdrawal of its vegan KitKat due to low sales, which coincided with this change in the KitKat’s shape.

Made with rice-based milk substitutes and 100% sustainable cocoa, the vegan KitKat, which retailed for about £1, had an 18% lower carbon footprint than its conventional equivalent.
